Rights of Research Participants

Anyone wishing to take part in clinical research has the right to know as much information as possible about the research in advance. Before participating, every research participant has the right to receive a sufficient explanation from the researcher about the purpose of the clinical research, the side effects of the drugs used in it, precautions to observe during the trial period, and the rights of research participants, and to decide whether to participate of their own free will.

During the course of the research, participants may contact the principal investigator, study staff, or study coordinator at any time if they have questions or if an adverse event occurs. Matters concerning the rights and welfare of research participants may be directed to the research-participant rights-protection officer of the Center for Human Research Protection. The contact information of the responsible staff is provided in the participant information sheet and informed consent form, so participants may inquire through that contact.

  • · When deciding whether to take part in or continue a study, make the decision of your own free will after receiving sufficient information from the researcher.
  • · When deciding whether to participate, consult with people you trust, including your family and the medical staff treating you.
  • · It is important to identify what is performed as part of routine care and what is performed for research purposes in the study you are considering.
  • · If there is anything about the research you do not understand, ask the researcher whatever you wish.
  • · You should know as much as possible about the study you intend to join.
  • · You should understand what is required of you as a research participant during the study.
  • · Follow the guidance provided by the researcher or research team while participating in the study.
  • · Inform the researcher of any changes you experience while participating in the study.
