About the Division of Laboratory Safety

The Division of Laboratory Safety is the department that provides professional consultation and support for the safety management and overall operation of the research environment, in accordance with the laws on laboratory and biosafety. Through an organization composed of experts in each field (biosafety and laboratory safety), we protect the health and lives of research personnel and contribute to revitalizing research activities by creating a safe and pleasant research environment.

Key Responsibilities

Biosafety Management

    Operation of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC): risk-assessment review and operation and management of the biosecurity program

  2. 2

    Facility and research support: support for the notification and licensing of a total of 27 Biosafety Level 1–3 facilities and of the handling and transfer of high-risk pathogens

  3. 3

    Education support: conducting regular safety training in accordance with biosafety-related laws and other safety-related laws

Laboratory Safety Management

  1. 1

    Support for risk assessment / preliminary hazard analysis: consultation and review on preparing risk assessments / preliminary hazard analyses for each research project

  2. 2

    Regular safety inspections: conducting an annual detailed safety diagnosis and regular safety inspections in each safety area

  3. 3

    Education support: conducting regular safety training in accordance with laboratory-safety laws and other safety-related laws
