The Korea Biobank Project (KBP) is led by the National Biobank of Korea at the National Institute of Health, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. It secures, manages, and distributes biospecimens nationwide to support healthcare research and industrial development.
Since the launch of the KBP, the Human Biobank of Seoul National University Hospital has served as a core hub biobank.
It has become a central pillar of the national biobank network, suppported by well-established operational procedures, quality management, and distiribution system.
Phase 1 · 2008 – 2012
Establishment of the Korea Biobank Network in collaboration with regional biobanks (SNUH selected as an operating institution in 2010)
Phase 2 · 2013 – 2015
Establishment of the Human Bioresource Research Support Center and the Human Biospecimen Distribution Desk, laying the foundaton for biospecimen distribution service platform
Phase 3 · 2016 – 2020
Implementation of disease-focused biobank projects
Phase 4 · 2021 – 2025
Supporting for specialized biobank programs and the innovative Biobanking Consortium Project
Phase 5 · 2026 – 2030
Supporting for specialized biobank programs and the innovative Biobanking Consortium Project
