Her current work focuses on immunological aspects and clinical interests in corneal transplantation and the relation of gut microbiota to the autoimmune dry eye disease.

Based on a translational research platform for the development of diagnostic technology and therapeutic agents for intractable retinopathy, I have developed ophthalmological diagnosis and treatment technology based on unmet needs. In particular, I have been leading gene editing and cell therapy research related to the development of treatments for inherited retinal disease (IRD).

My research focuses on translational retina research integrating medical imaging, artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, and medical informatics. I develop quantitative image-analysis and deep-learning models using ultra-widefield fundus imaging, OCT, visual field data, and other ophthalmic datasets to support diagnosis, prognosis prediction, and treatment decision-making in major retinal diseases, including pathologic myopia, diabetic retinopathy, and retinitis pigmentosa. I also conduct interdisciplinary research on sensor-based postoperative monitoring, 3D-printed model eyes, ophthalmic medical devices, and clinical data platforms, with a growing interest in literature-based knowledge transfer and Human-AI collaboration for research agenda discovery and planning.

My research focuses on medical artificial intelligence using large-scale ophthalmic imaging, electronic medical records, and real-world clinical data, with a particular emphasis on retinal diseases. Major areas of interest include the development of deep learning models based on multimodal ophthalmic imaging such as ultra-widefield fundus imaging, OCT, and OCTA; multimodal artificial intelligence and vision-language foundation models integrating clinical images with real-world electronic medical records; and EMR-based clinical prediction models and decision-support systems. I am also interested in clinical epidemiology studies using nationwide health insurance and emergency department databases, as well as the development of on-premise large language model systems for clinical documentation summarization and workflow support in real-world ophthalmic practice. The ultimate goal of my research is to address unmet clinical needs, support physician decision-making, and advance precision medicine in ophthalmology.
