Brief Summary
I am a clinician and biomedical researcher specializing in the treatment of airway stenosis, vocal cord and salivary gland disorders, and head and neck cancer. To address challenging clinical issues, I have dedicated myself to treating intractable airway diseases while leading domestic and international medical education by hosting the only hands-on airway surgery course, workshop, and international conference in Korea. Furthermore, as an invited tutor worldwide, I continue to contribute to the advancement of global otolaryngological surgical techniques through live demonstrations and lectures.
Notably, I developed an original diagnostic CT technique and novel surgical procedures for the precise diagnosis and treatment of posterior glottic diastasis. I have also spearheaded research on the development of the first and only laryngeal stent in Korea, laying the foundation for its practical clinical application.
My passion as a basic researcher aligns with these clinical endeavors. I focus on tissue engineering research to regenerate complex and intractable tissues—such as the airway, vocal cords, salivary glands, and oral mucosa—by integrating various scaffolds, growth factors, stem cell spheroids, and bio-inks. Additionally, I am actively pursuing follow-up studies to elucidate and control immune responses following artificial airway transplantation.
Beyond research, I contribute to technology commercialization and the vitality of the bio-ecosystem. As the Principal Investigator (PI) of a project funded by the Ministry of Science and ICT, I successfully lead a national initiative to support the scale-up and global market expansion of innovative startups. Through this initiative, I provide multi-faceted support tailored to 14 bio-startups and am driving preparations to establish an 'In-hospital Startup Academy' linked directly with the hospital's infrastructure and medical faculty.
