Brief Summary
Professor Jin Yong Lee is a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Seoul National University College of Medicine, where his research focuses on Korea's healthcare system and public health care.
He previously served as a professor of Preventive Medicine at Konyang University College of Medicine, Director of the Department of Public Medicine at Seoul Metropolitan Government–Seoul National University Boramae Medical Center, professor at the Public Healthcare Center of Seoul National University Hospital, and Director of the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Research Institute (HIRA Research Institute). He also served as Director of Public Health at the Korean Medical Association.
During his tenure as Director of the HIRA Research Institute, he led the design and implementation of pilot programs, including the post-payment compensation program for public specialized pediatric care centers and the pilot project to strengthen the tertiary care system. These initiatives aimed to improve the sustainability of essential healthcare services, enhance public accountability, and strengthen the capacity for critical and specialized care.
His research has also focused on the weakening of primary care, excessive competition among healthcare providers, and the financial sustainability of public hospitals. In addition, he has maintained a strong interest in addressing the healthcare needs of medically vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities, adolescents, and pregnant women living in under-served areas.

Brief Summary
My research focuses on investigating the roles of lifestyle and metabolic factors in the development and prognosis of cancer and other chronic diseases, with the ultimate goal of developing evidence-based disease prevention strategies. Using large-scale nationwide databases, including the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS), the Korea Central Cancer Registry (KCCR), and the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), I conduct population-based epidemiological studies to examine the associations of obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, dietary habits, fatty liver disease, and other modifiable risk factors with cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders.
In addition, I am interested in the health of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) and the long-term health of cancer survivors. My research focuses on a broad range of survivorship issues, including cardiovascular disease, mental health, neurocognitive function, reproductive health, and the health of survivors' offspring from a life-course perspective. Through this work, I aim to provide scientific evidence that supports long-term survivorship care and improves the quality of life of individuals living with and beyond cancer.
