The standard size of a bench is 10 m².

2. Allocation Period and Operation

  1. 1

The allocation period runs from May 1 of each year to April 30 of the following year (1 year).

  2. 2

Usage performance during the allocation period is evaluated to carry out new allocation and reallocation.

  3. 3

Bench location assignment and additional allocation are subject to review by the Department of Experimental Animal Research Operating Committee.

3. Application Eligibility

  1. 1

Eligible applicants are those appointed as adjunct faculty of Seoul National University Hospital, clinical professor personnel (funded/non-funded), or convergence medicine professor personnel.

  2. 2

As a rule, one bench is allocated per principal investigator.

  3. 3

Bench assignment per department may not exceed 20% of the total (a maximum of 2 benches).

  4. 4

Allocation may be restricted if there has been no record of using the Department of Experimental Animal Research within the past year.

4. Allocation Criteria and Priority

  1. 1

Allocation is premised on the conduct of animal experiments.

  2. 2

Applications based on research projects are given priority.

  3. 3

Priority consideration is given to applications submitted on a research-group basis, those that acknowledge shared use, and research teams seeking short-term allocation.

  4. 4

Consideration is given to newly appointed professors (within 2 years of appointment) and professors returning from long-term training.

  5. 5

Research projects unrelated to animal experiments are excluded from allocation.

  6. 6

The utilization record of existing allocated benches and compliance with regulations are reflected in the evaluation.

  7. 7

Principal investigators who already hold a separate bench within the Yeongeon Campus or the hospital are given lower priority in the allocation review.

5. Operation of Shared Space

  1. 1

A minimum amount of shared experiment space is provided for researchers who have not been assigned an allocated bench.

  2. 2

Specific research centers and industry-academia cooperative laboratories may be assigned a bench after review.

6. Bench Allocation for Start-up and Participating Companies

  1. 1

Bench allocation of research space is available for start-up companies founded by in-house professors and for general companies.

  2. 2

The number of start-up company benches is limited to within 30% of the total benches.

  3. 3

The allocation period is guaranteed for up to 3 years, after which extension is decided based on whether there is competition.

  4. 4

Newly applying research teams are selected with priority.

Equipment Storage Allocation

1. Allocation Priority

  1. 1

Priority is given to researchers who do not have an allocated bench within the Preclinical Experiment Laboratory.

  2. 2

Priority is given to those applying only for equipment storage without a cabinet allocation.

  3. 3

As a rule, one unit is allocated per principal investigator, and the number per department may not exceed 20% of the total (a maximum of 4 units).
(However, if one principal investigator is allocated two units, the second storage is charged at 1.5 times the usage fee.)

  4. 4

Equipment storage allocation within special shared laboratories is not permitted.

  5. 5

Equipment storage is used only for storing animal-experiment-related instruments and experimental supplies. (Formalin specimens are stored in the organic-solvent storage on basement level 1 of the research building.)

2. Location and Size

Equipment storage location and size
Location9th floor (Room 9106), 10th floor (Room 10103)
AreaApprox. 2.5 m × 4.5 m

3. Allocation Schedule

  1. 1

As a rule, allocation is carried out once a year on May 1.

  2. 2

Ad hoc allocation may be made when vacant space arises.

Cabinet Allocation

1. Allocation Priority

  1. 1

Priority is given to researchers who do not have an allocated bench or equipment storage within the Preclinical Experiment Laboratory.

  2. 2

Priority consideration is given to those seeking short-term allocation and applications for the purpose of conducting research projects.

  3. 3

Cabinets are allocated individually as a rule, and are not concentrated on a specific individual or department.

  4. 4

As a rule, one unit is allocated per principal investigator, and the number of allocations per department is limited.

  5. 5

Cabinet allocation within special shared laboratories is not permitted.
