Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency
IACUC Standard Operating Guidelines
(Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency Notice No. 2023-47, Dec 26, 2023)
The purpose of this document is to establish standard operating guidelines for the smooth operation of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), which the head of an animal testing facility must establish pursuant to Article 51, Paragraph 5 of the Animal Protection Act, so that each animal testing facility may make use of them. It is a guideline that organizes the detailed criteria that testing facilities must comply with in order to secure the ethics and scientific validity of animal experimentation. The standard operating guidelines (2021) previously operated jointly by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety are no longer in use, and have been separated to align with each respective statute.
